- As a representative of Alaska, Murkowski is a predictable choice for membership on the Energy and National Resources Committee. Alaska is a state that relies heavily on its abundant resources. It ranks 4th in oil production when federal offshore areas are excluded, according to the U.S Energy Information Administration, which also lists Alaska is one of the only states to generate electricity from geothermal energy sources.
- Due to its pertinence and salience in her home state, service on the Committee on Energy and National Resources could be used by Murkowski as an opportunity to credit claim and appeal to constituents.
